The pictures below are a few images from the Fiction Night Club, "The Exhibitionist" exhibition held on June 24, 2009. Featured artists were myself (Kori Solomon), Phillip Clayton and Marcel Messam. Also keeping the night alive was a poetic performance by Sajjoya Alcott and dance performances by Morekeia Isaccs and Shady Squad. Over all it was a brilliant well spent night. The DJ Collin Hinds rocked the club too! Amazing stuff!

Over a great deal of months, Adrian McPherson, Administrator for Sense Jamaica, has been working thoroughly to organize a user-friendly Jamaican online encyclopedia to ease the minds of 'us' the internet users to source vital information on Jamaica; its happenings, music, people and almost anything one would want to know.

Sense Jamaica is about user-powered contribution—to develop a concise and comprehensive body of knowledge, specifically on Jamaicans and other aspects within the Jamaican realm.

Currently we are seeking persons to be part of the development of a web based community. This community will be expected to be the driving force that collaboratively assist in the writing and editing of articles and other encyclopedic content which covers existing knowledge.

The articles on the website would encompass the following fundamental principles. They will be written from a neutral point of view representing fairness, and as far as possible without bias and would contain all significant views that have been expressed and published by reliable sources

Sense Jamaica seeks to provide a free and current source of information as it relates to Jamaica.

Head study I did a while back. It started out as a graphite drawing, using my '2b' and 'h' and mechanical pencils and quickly evolved into this digital image... I was working on a new series (which I don't think I should disclose right now because it is still in the planning stage) and decided to take a break to have a little fun. The end result... Comments are well appreciated!

I found myself doing a great amount of scribbles starting almost in about June or July 2008. I stumbled up on the idea from one of my previous works posted "Dermatilliomania Series." They suddenly evolved in something very illustrative and fun.. Illustrations I find myself doing quite often too! Let me know what you think of them.

Artist Statement

Societies Influences on Self Harm

As human beings, I believe our identity is composed of a layering of stories, those we retell about ourselves and those we overtime ascribe importance and value to.

This series of work is focused on the unorthodox methods children in the Jamaican inner cities between the ages twelve and seventeen perform to themselves as a means of finding comfort. This study was narrowed down to the middle and lower class children of Jamaica. I have found that this has been an issue that has been lingering for quite a while in the Jamaican society and has been overlooked by parents and guardians of these children.

This study is extremely significant, not only because it may be seen as a social commentary to parents, guardians or even teachers of these children, but also because it gives the wider public an idea of what children have been exposed to at a young age.

First "Real" Body of Work

As a fine artist my goal is to bring important issues that we as Jamaicans (and God's willing to the world) face on a day-to-day basis. In the last body of work I focused on how society influences children to perform harm to themselves... The study was a very interesting one because I've learnt so much as I went along creating the works... The work is mostly mixed media prints, where I focused on the Printmaking techniques to come to the final product.
